Companies ranked by the number of operating LNG vessels the tracker lists them as owning. Jointly owned ships are credited to each listed owner in full, and marked.
How joint ownership is handled
Global Energy Monitor lists vessel owners without percentages, so a ship with two listed owners is counted once for each. Owners’ figures therefore overlap and should never be summed. The Jointly owned column shows how many of each company’s operating vessels are shared this way.

- Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, with 95 operating vessels totalling 15,533,471 m³, 60 of them jointly owned with another listed owner.
- How are jointly owned ships counted?
- In full for each listed owner. The tracker gives no ownership percentage for vessels, so there is no honest way to split a ship between owners. That means the owners’ figures overlap and must not be added together; the shared column says how many of a company’s vessels are co-owned.
- Is the owner the same as the operator or manager?
- No. This ranking uses the owner role only. A shipowner often hands the ship to a separate operator or ship manager, which is a different relationship. See ownership, parents and why they differ.
- Does this include ships under construction?
- No — only vessels reported as operating. Ships on order are in the order book ranking, kept separate.
