Privacy policy

LNG Atlas (lngatlas.org) is the controller of the information described here. Contact: [email protected].

• Nothing you type into the site. There are no accounts, sign-ins, comments or forms. The search box, unit converter, terminal comparison and pipeline lookup run in your browser on data the site already serves.
• Hosting logs. The site is served by Cloudflare, which receives each request (including your IP address, browser type and the page requested) in order to deliver the page and protect it from abuse. LNG Atlas does not use these logs to identify individual visitors.
• Analytics, only if you allow it. See below.
• Email you send us. If you write to [email protected], we keep the message and your address to answer it and to correct the site if you reported a mistake.

What is stored in your browser without asking. One item in your browser's local storage, named lngatlas-consent, which records whether you chose “Accept required” or “Accept all” so you are not asked again. It is not a cookie, is not sent to any server, and holds no identifier.

Google Analytics. The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are read. Analytics starts switched off.

• If you choose Accept all, Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier, which tell it whether a visit is new or returning and group page views into sessions.
• If you choose Accept required, no analytics cookies are set. Google Analytics runs in a restricted mode in which a page may still send Google a basic signal that a page was viewed (the address of the page, the referring page and your browser's standard request details), without a cookie or an identifier stored on your device.
• If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, the site treats that as “Accept required” and does not ask.

You can change your choice at any time with Cookie choices in the footer of any page. Advertising features and ad personalisation are switched off, the site shows no advertising and sets no advertising cookies. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Google and Cloudflare may process information in countries other than your own. Google's own description of how it handles analytics data is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

• Analytics cookies and the analytics signal described above are used only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
• Hosting logs are processed because the site cannot be delivered or defended from abuse without them (legitimate interests).
• Email is processed to respond to you and to correct the site (legitimate interests).

LNG Atlas does not sell personal information and does not use it for advertising or profiling.

Analytics data is kept in Google Analytics for the retention period set on that account, and ask us if you want to know what it currently is. Email is kept for as long as it takes to deal with your message and for a reasonable time afterwards in case the same point comes up again, then deleted. Hosting logs are kept by Cloudflare under its own retention rules.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the information held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. Write to [email protected] and we will deal with your request. Analytics data is not tied to your name or email, so to find your own records we may need the identifier from your _ga cookie. If you are unhappy with an answer, you can complain to your data protection authority.

• Maps are drawn from files served by this site. No map tile provider or other third party is contacted when a map loads.
• Links to other sites, such as Global Energy Monitor, news publishers and World Oil Monitor, lead to services with their own privacy policies.
• Share buttons are ordinary links to X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Bluesky, Reddit and your email program. Nothing is loaded from those services, and nothing is sent to them, unless you click one; the page you are sharing then goes to that service under its own privacy policy. The chart download and embed buttons fetch files from this site.
• The news page loads headlines from a service run for this site, which receives your request like any other server does.
• Children. The site is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.
