What LNG Atlas publishes, where it comes from, what it will not do, and how a mistake gets fixed.
Who publishes this site
LNG Atlas is published by its operator under the name LNG Atlas. It has no named authors, and none are invented: no byline, headshot or credential on this site belongs to a person who does not exist. Everything published is read by the operator before it goes live. Questions and corrections go to [email protected]; see also the contact page.
LNG Atlas is independent. It is not affiliated with Global Energy Monitor, whose data it uses, and carries no advertising.
Three kinds of page, and how each is made
Pages built from the tracker
Terminals, pipelines, carriers, countries, companies, rankings, comparisons, chokepoint exposure and the downloadable files are generated by code from Global Energy Monitor's Global Gas Infrastructure Tracker (CC BY 4.0) each time the site is built. The opening summary on an asset page is produced by a fixed template from the same fields shown in its table, so the sentence cannot say anything the table does not. The rules are on the methodology page.
Curated lists and models
The supplier directory, the company alias list and the chokepoint routing table are maintained by the operator. Every supplier entry cites a public source, and an entry without one is dropped. Chokepoint routing is an editorial model of typical voyages, not vessel tracking, and every page that shows it says so.
Explainers, glossary and blog
The learning modules, glossary and blog are the editorial content of the site. A post that quotes a figure takes it from the loaded tracker release and names that release; it is a dated statement about one release, and what changed between releases is recorded on the change log.
Rules the site follows
- Nothing is estimated. A field the source leaves empty is shown as “Not reported”, never filled in and never shown as zero. Data coverage counts how often that happens.
- Statuses are not added together. Operating, under-construction and proposed capacity are shown separately everywhere, and import and export capacity are never summed.
- Attribution is on every page that shows tracker data, with the release month of the file it came from, and the wording is not changed.
- Inferences are labelled. Pipeline-to-terminal links are proximity within a stated distance, and sister ships are inferred from yard, year and size; both pages say so.
- No copying. The written project histories on GEM.wiki are linked, not reproduced.
- No advice. The site describes infrastructure. It is not investment, trading, legal or engineering advice, and it does not claim review by external experts.
Corrections and removals
If something on the site is wrong, email [email protected] with the page address and what you believe is incorrect. A confirmed mistake is corrected or removed. When the error is in Global Energy Monitor's underlying data rather than in how it is presented here, the fix belongs in the tracker; say so in your message and the page can be annotated or withdrawn in the meantime.
